At its public meeting on March 24, 2020, which was held remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Westfield Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Paul Duncan as principal of Franklin Elementary School in Westfield, effective July 1, 2020.

The deadline for nominations for the 28th annual Charles Philhower Fellowship Award is Friday, April 3, 2020. The Philhower Fellowship recognizes an outstanding full-time elementary teacher in the Westfield Public Schools each year.

Parents and other members of the community attended an impactful presentation on suicide awareness and prevention on Feb. 20 at Roosevelt Intermediate School, hearing from a mother whose 16-year-old son died by suicide 10 years ago and from the training director of Caring Contact, a volunteer-staffed caring and crisis hotline and listening community.
