An International Celebration

A time-honored tradition at McKinley Elementary School in Westfield.

For more than two decades, third graders have researched and written about a specific country, using that information to compose a speech to perform at an International Celebration in May.  Each student in a group touches on an aspect of the assigned country, whether history, culture, food, sports and leisure, and other traditions.

“This celebration gives our students the opportunity to show off the many skills they have acquired throughout the school year,” says 3rd grade teacher Brendan Hickey.
